From the recording Don't Throw your Gifts in the Crick (a bit of good advice wrapped up in folk-song style)
Lyrics
I have some wonderful friends, who give me good advice,
not just with the words they say, but they show me with their lives.
Now people say a picture's worth a thousand words, I guess,
but a real-life example just has to be the best!
What's their advice?
Trust the Lord, don't give up, take time to be a friend.
Just give your best, leave the rest, there's no reason to pretend.
And when the going gets rough, keep looking up—even when the future's black.
And most of all, don't throw your gifts in the crick out back.
One day they told me, things don't always go as planned.
And though you try, they might get worse, so bad it's hard to stand.
It might be mighty tempting to throw it all away—
but when you think it's time to quit, you'll see the light of day.
Each of us has a gift, given by the Lord. When life gets you down, still use your gifts to bless those around, and keep on—
Trusting the Lord, don't give up, take time to be a friend.
Just give your best, leave the rest, there's no reason to pretend.
And when the going gets rough, keep looking up—even when the future's black.
And most of all, don't throw your gifts in the crick out back.
And most of all, don't throw your gifts in the crick out back.
And most of all, don't throw your gifts in the crick out back.
